Where to Take Photos in McDonough & Henry County, GA

You don't always have to head into Atlanta for a beautiful photo session.

Being based in McDonough means I get the best of both worlds. I can photograph the city when the look calls for architecture, skyline and downtown energy, but there are also some great locations right here in McDonough and throughout Henry County.

And choosing a location isn't just about finding somewhere pretty.

The light matters. Your wardrobe matters. The time of day matters. And most importantly, the location should actually fit you and the way you want your photos to feel.

FIRST, WHAT MAKES A GOOD PHOTO LOCATION?

A pretty location is a start. But I'm looking at more than that.

I pay attention to where the light falls, how much variety we can get without spending half your session walking, what's happening in the background, how busy the location tends to be and whether there are photography rules or permits we need to handle beforehand.

Because you shouldn't have to figure all of that out when you book your session.

MCDONOUGH SQUARE

If you want a little character without heading into Atlanta, downtown McDonough gives us plenty to work with. Around the Square, we can move between greenery, brick walkways, colorful murals and urban textures without spending half your session driving from one location to another.

That's one reason I like photographing here. We can create a polished portrait, loosen things up with a little movement, then walk a few steps and completely change the feel of the photos.

Same session. Same area. Completely different looks.

WHAT IF MCDONOUGH SQUARE ISN'T YOUR VIBE?

McDonough Square isn't the only option, and every session doesn't need the same backdrop.

Maybe you want open space and greenery. Maybe you're looking for something a little more polished, or you want a location that feels relaxed and simple. There are options throughout McDonough and Henry County, and I'm always looking at more than just whether a location photographs well.

I consider the light, accessibility, crowds, photography restrictions and how the location works with the look you're planning.

The goal isn't to squeeze you into my favorite location. It's to find the location that makes sense for you.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE CHOOSING YOUR LOCATION

The location should work for your session, not against it.

Before we settle on a spot, there are a few things I always consider:

The light. A location can look completely different depending on the time of day. Good light will always win over simply choosing a pretty background.

Your wardrobe. What you're wearing and where we're shooting should make sense together. Your location is part of the overall look, so we want everything working together.

Crowds and timing. Some locations are much busier on weekends or at certain times of day. Sometimes choosing a weekday or adjusting the session time makes all the difference.

Permits and fees. Some locations require permission or charge a photography fee. I'll help you determine what the location requires before your session, and any location or permit fees are the client's responsibility.

How much variety we can create. I love a location that gives us several looks without spending half the session walking or driving from one spot to another.
